Introduction
1-3
The PowerVault 200S and 201S storage systems offer the following features:
Support for up to eight 1.0-inch or 1.6-inch Ultra2 low voltage differential (LVD)
SCSI hard-disk drives via a SCSI backplane board and special SCSI hard-disk drive
carriers. The SCSI backplane automatically configures SCSI ID numbers on indi-
vidual hard-disk drives, greatly simplifying drive installation.
Support for up to eight 1.0-inch or 1.6-inch Ultra3 SCSI hard-disk drives when
using an ESM, SMM, or SEMM, and an approved Ultra3 SCSI or RAID controller.
The SCSI backplane can be configured as an eight-drive (1 x 8) backplane or elec-
trically split into two separate four-drive (2 x 4) backplanes.
The PowerVault 210S and 211S storage systems offer the following features:
Support for up to 12 1.0-inch (only) Ultra2 LVD SCSI hard-disk drives via a SCSI
backplane board and special SCSI hard-disk drive carriers. The SCSI backplane
automatically configures SCSI ID numbers on individual hard-disk drives, greatly
simplifying drive installation.
Support for up to 12 1.0-inch (only) Ultra3 SCSI hard-disk drives when using an
SMM or SEMM, and an approved Ultra3 SCSI or RAID controller.
The SCSI backplane can be configured as a 12-drive (1 x 12) backplane or electri-
cally split into two separate six-drive (2 x 6) backplanes.
The PowerVault 2xxS storage system is designed for use with Dell PowerEdge 1300,
2300, 2400, 2450, 4300, 4350, 4400, 6300, 6350, and 8450 computer systems.
(Other Dell systems may be qualified in the future to support the storage system.)
