Linksys highly recommends that you
use the Setup CD-ROM to install the
Cable/DSL Router with 8-Port Switch.
However, if you prefer to install the
Router manually, then follow the
instructions in this Quick Installation.
A
Make sure all devices, includ-
ing your PCs, modem, and
Router, are powered down.
B
If you haven’t already done so,
connect your cable or DSL
modem to its proper connec-
tion—the coaxial jack for
cable or the phone jack for
DSL. Follow the instructions from
your cable or DSL modem’s
installation guide.
C
Using an Ethernet network
cable, connect the LAN or
Ethernet network port of the
cable or DSL modem to the
Router’s Internet port.
D
Connect an Ethernet network
cable to your PC’s Ethernet
network adapter.
E
Connect the other end to one
of the Router’s Ethernet ports.
2
Connect the Router
In Step 3, you will need the setup
instructions provided by your Inter-
net Service Provider (ISP). If you do
not have this information, then con-
tact your ISP before proceeding.
The instructions from your ISP tell you
how to set up your PC for Internet
access. Because you are now using
the Router to share Internet access
among several computers, you will
use the setup information to config-
ure the Router instead of your PC.
A
Open your PC’s web browser.
Enter http://192.168.1.1 (the
Router’s default local IP
address) in the web browser’s
Address field. Then press the
Enter key.
B
A screen will appear and ask
you for a User Name and Pass-
word. Leave the User Name
field empty, and enter admin
(the default) in the Password
field. Then click the OK button.
C
The Router’s Web-based Utility
will appear with the Basic Setup
screen showing.
H
B
Configure the Router
E
A
F
Repeat Steps D and E for every
PC you wish to connect to the
Router.
If you are connecting more
than eight PCs to the Router,
then you will need to connect
a hub or switch to any of the
Router’s Ethernet ports.
G
Power on the cable or DSL
modem, and power on the PC
you wish to use to configure
the Router.
H
Connect the included power
adapter to the Router.
I
Connect the other end of the
adapter to an electrical outlet.
