The NetVanta
TM
3000 Series is a line of
modular access routers designed for cost-
effective branch office connectivity over
frame relay or point-to-point networks and
Internet access.
These modular platforms offer
a turnkey solution for access routing and WAN
connectivity in a single, compact package.
The NetVanta 3000 Series currently offers
the NetVanta 3200 and the NetVanta 3205,
with a variety of interchangeable Network
Interface Modules (NIMs) and Dial Backup
Modules (DIMs). The two products support
the same features and perform the same
functions, but the NetVanta 3200 is a stand-
alone unit in a plastic housing, while the
NetVanta 3205 is a 1U high, rackmountable
metal enclosure.
The NIM is a plug-in module that offers a
built-in DSU/CSU for 56/64K, T1/FT1, T1/FT1
with DSX-1, or a serial interface. An analog
modem or ISDN BRI DIM plugs-on to the
NIM, which prevents downtime by dialing
around a failed primary circuit, guaranteeing
bandwidth for mission critical applications.
All NIMs and DIMs are field upgradable and can
be configured remotely, thus eliminating the
need for additional on-site technical expertise.
The versatile hardware platform of the
NetVanta 3000 Series is further comple-
mented with the ADTRAN Operating System
(OS). The ADTRAN OS supports static and
default routes, and allows for fast, accurate
network convergence using routing protocols
such as RIP versions 1 and 2. In addition, the
ADTRAN OS terminates Frame Relay and
PPP WAN protocols.
The ADTRAN OS offers a standard
Command Line Interface (CLI) that mimics
the widely adopted, industry de facto standard.
Using an already familiar CLI eliminates
training cost associated with learning a new
operating system or costly industry certifica-
tions. The CLI also allows for configuration
scripts to be used, saved, and downloaded
for quick and easy backups or as a recovery
mechanism.
For added security, the NetVanta 3000
Series also provides a powerful, high-
performance stateful inspection firewall.
It will examine all incoming and outgoing
packets against the security policies estab-
lished by the IT Manager. In addition, the
firewall can identify and protect against
common Denial of Service (DoS) attempts
like TCP syn flooding, IP spoofing, ICMP
redirect, LAN attacks, ping-of-death, and IP
reassembly problems.
The NetVanta 3000 Series also includes
built-in alert and logging mechanisms for
notifying network administrators about
suspicious activities that are going on in the
network. As another layer of security, the
NetVanta 3000 Series also offers IP address
concealment and conservation by performing
Network Address Translation (NAT).
ADTRAN, the leader in WAN connectivity,
offers reliable equipment that increases
network performance, lowers cost and posi-
tions networks for the future. The NetVanta
3000 Series is no exception. With this kind of
corporate backing and product versatility, the
NetVanta 3000 Series offers a low-cost,
feature-rich access router platform with the
freedom for future expansion and network
growth. In addition, these products are
backed by an industry-leading five-year
warranty and ADTRAN’s world-class 24-hour
technical support.
