About Exposur
e V
alue
Automatic exposur
e works by selecting
an average value of all the dif
fer
ent tones
in the shot. If two dif
fer
ent objects have an
equal amount of dark and light par
ts, they
will have the same exposur
e value.
However
, when the scene is dominated
by dark shadows or light objects, the AE
system does not work pr
operly
, and may
fail to select the best exposur
e. For
example, if you captur
e a bride in white
wedding dr
ess, the image becomes
darker than it actually looks. The camera
tries to neutralize the light and dark
por
tions and the dr
ess becomes gray
while skin tone becomes too dark.
