Garmin Geko 201 QuickStart 
 
Logging Points 
•  Turn on the unit by pressing the red power button. Make sure there are four black 
bars at the bottom of the first screen (the skyplot). You need at least four satellite 
signals before you can record points. 
•  Press the Page button four times. 
•  Select the Mark option. Your coordinates are displayed at the bottom in UTM. 
•  Press the Up arrow and select the waypoint number to edit it, if you wish. Press 
Page to go back to the waypoint info. 
•  Select the symbol above the waypoint name if you wish to change it. Press Page 
to go back to the waypoint info. 
•  Select the OK option to save the waypoint 
 
Finding Waypoints 
•  Press the Page button until the Menu screen is displayed. 
•  Scroll down and press OK to select Waypoints. 
•  Select List All
•  Search for your waypoint name and press OK. 
•  Select Goto. Pressing this will take you to the Compass screen which will show 
you which direction the waypoint is in. You may also use the Map screen to 
navigate to the waypoint. 
 
The Map Screen 
•  Use the up and down arrows to zoom in and out. 
•  The line that follows you is called the track. It is a good idea to clear it before you 
head out. Press OK, select Clear Track Log and press OK. Select Yes
 
The Compass Screen 
•  The compass is not a true magnetic compass! Meaning that if you are standing 
still it will more than likely be pointing in the wrong direction. It is only accurate 
if you are moving. 
 
The Navigation Screen 
•  Use this screen to keep track of different types of data (speed, trip odometer, time, 
etc.) 
•  It is a good idea to reset this at the beginning of a trip. Press OK and select the 
reset options (these will say different things depending on what types of data you 
have chosen to display.) 
•  To change the types of data displayed on this screen press OK. Select Change 
Fields. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the field you wish to change and
