Using the Model 5782 ATM Virtual Network Router

The master control processor (MCP) is a special module that is used to control the 
switch. You must configure this module to recognize the Model 5782 VNR in the 
Model 5000BH backplane. You must also define the type of signaling (UNI 3.0 or 
UNI 3.1) that the VNR uses to communicate with other ATM devices and enable 
or disable the interim local management interface (ILMI).

After you configure the MCP, you must access the Model 5782 VNR and 
configure the device to communicate with the network. You can access the VNR 
over the ATM backplane or over the PPX backplane.

To access the Model 5782 VNR over the ATM backplane, you must first provide 
an initial configuration to the ATM backplane interface. Using the Quick-Start 
installation script (install.bat), you can configure the interface to use a PVC, to act 
as a LAN emulation client, or to run Classical IP over ATM.

To initialize the Model 5782 VNR using the Quick-Start script, you need to 
perform the following tasks:

•

Connect a terminal to the Model 5000BH chassis service port. 

•

Start the Technician Interface.

•

Prepare to run the Quick-Start installation script (review the installation files, 
boot the VNR with the ti5000.cfg file, and fill out the network information 
worksheets). 

•

Run the installation script.

After you initialize the ATM backplane interface, you can access the
Model 5782 VNR using Site Manager software.
