COMMAND.COM is Processed
The default command shell for ROM DOS 5 is
SHELL=D:\COMMAND.COM /P D:\
When COMMAND.COM is loaded by this shell statement, it processes
AUTOEXEC.BAT.  If MiniCMD is loaded instead of COMMAND.COM,
ROMINIT.BAT is processed instead of AUTOEXEC.BAT.  You could load
MiniCMD either by specifying a different SHELL statement in CONFIG.SYS or
by copying MiniCMD to D:\COMMAND.COM.  Details on using MiniCMD are
presented later in this section.
"
NOTE:
Because of size constraints, the COMMAND.COM file provided on a 6200 Computer is, in
fact, MiniCMD.  See the ROM DOS 5 paragraph, page 7-2, for more information.
Warm Booting (or Resetting)
A warm boot is only slightly different from a cold boot.  Since the two forms of
booting are so similar, this publication may refer to booting without specifying
warm or cold.  Such references would imply that the form of boot does not
matter.
For warm booting, the PEN*KEY Computer must be booted before and still have
power applied to it from either batteries or a charger.  To warm boot, press the
reset switch (as described in the Setup for PC Development paragraph in Section
1).  This reinitializes the hardware and software.  POST procedures are
reexecuted and ROM DOS restarts.
If a RAM drive was previously created, the data on that drive is still there,
unchanged by the reset cycle.  The rest of memory is reconstructed as part of the
tests that were performed.  For example, only that extended memory (which was
not allocated to the RAM drive) is reset when extended memory is tested.  The
amount of extended memory reported does not include memory allocated to the
RAM drive.  If all extended memory is allocated to the RAM drive, the clicking
associated with the extended memory test is not heard and 0K of extended
memory is reported.
Master Mode Boot Sequence
The Master Mode boot procedure is provided for a computer that does not have a
functioning version of flash and to reboot and reflash with a functioning version.
"
To update or change the contents of the flash memory.
A Master Mode boot cycle differs from a standard boot cycle in that the BIOS
code that is copied to shadow RAM comes from a PC Card instead of from flash
memory.  In addition, drive B: is temporarily used as the default drive.  In that
way, the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT (or ROMINIT.BAT) are executed
from the PC Card instead of any startup files in flash memory or on the RAM
drive.  To initiate a Master Mode boot cycle:
"
On a 6200 Computer:
Press and hold the [Yes] key while either applying power or pressing the
reset switch.  Release the [Yes] key after applying power or releasing the
reset switch.
"
On a 6300 Computer:
Press and hold the suspend/resume switch (labeled
I/ O
) while either applying power or pressing the reset switch.  Release the
suspend/resume switch after applying power or releasing the reset switch.
Thus, you can select a Master Mode boot sequence when either cold booting
or warm booting.
