The keypad type is initially configured in the terminal’s firmware at the

Keypad Table Diagnostic
The keypad table diagnostic helps Intermec service personnel to identify
the number of the keypad table that you have loaded on your terminal.
The hexadecimal (hex) code displayed on the screen indicates which
keypad table is loaded. The following hex codes identify keypad tables for
the 243X 48-key keypad.
