To get the best sound from the speakers, we recom-
mend that you fit the supplied cork spacers. This will
also improve their stability and prevent them from
slipping.
If you plan not to use the speaker for a long period of
time, attach the included protective cover to protect
the speaker from dust, scratches, or sun damage.
To attach the cover, first make sure the front and rear
of the cover are properly oriented.
To remove the cover, slowly raise the cover so that it
will not be caught by the speaker surface.
The quality of the sound produced by the speakers is
directly affected by the size and shape of the room in
which they’re used and its furnishings. When decid-
ing where to place the speakers, read the following:
• If possible, mount the speakers on speaker stands,
concrete blocks, bricks, or a sturdy bookshelf. Put-
ting them directly on the floor will emphasize bass
sounds, resulting in a boomy sound.
• If a speaker is placed on an uneven surface, it may
wobble or vibrate and adversely affect bass perfor-
mance. You can eliminate speaker wobble by put-
ting a cork spacer or metal, such as a coin,
underneath the speaker or stand, as shown.
• If you place the speakers on a flat surface, such as
a bookshelf, you can improve the sound quality by
inserting cork spacers or metal, such as a coin,
underneath each speaker. Raising the speaker off
the flat surface a little will reduce the contact area
and improve the sound quality.
• If you like lots of bass, mount the speakers on low
speaker stands and place them in front of a solid
wall.
• Walls and furnishings can also affect sound qual-
ity. For good stereo imaging, put the left and right
speakers in similar locations at the same distance
away from your listening position and at the same
height. If you put them in totally different loca-
tions, for example, one on the floor and the other
on a bookshelf, the stereo imaging will be poor.
• To determine the best positions for the speakers,
imagine an equilateral triangle and put the left and
right speakers at the ends of its base. The perfect
listening position will be at or slightly behind the
triangle’s apex. Angle the speakers slightly toward
your listening position.
• Glass doors and smooth walls behind the listening
position can reflect the sound from the speakers
and can make sounds at certain frequencies louder.
You can prevent this by hanging sound-absorbing
material such as thick curtains on the door or wall.
