BG r-400c Specification Guide
The new Radia R-400C
by BG is a state-of-the-art in-wall center channel loudspeaker
featuring BG’s latest planar ribbon technology in a unique multiple-driver configuration. It is
ideally suited for the most demanding home theater applications or critical music listening
in multi-channel audio. While the R-400C can be used in virtually any high-performance
system, it was designed to perfectly complement the new Radia R-800 or R-600 to create the
finest architectural in-wall solution on the market.
At the heart of the R-400C are BG’s proprietary planar ribbon drivers based on the company’s
patented technology. In any center channel speaker design, controlled directivity, smooth
off-axis frequency response and high output are critical to achieve the best performance. In
the Radia R-400C, BG utilizes four Neo8 Ribbon Midrange Drivers combined with two Neo3
Ribbon Tweeters in a symmetrical array using an innovative tapering technique.
Tapering is frequency-dependent attenuation that allows a progressive change of the
apparent length of the array. In order to insure controlled directivity without lobing, it is
necessary to taper the array and avoid using multiple drivers at wavelengths less than the
driver spacing. At the same time, tapering allows using arrayed drivers in certain frequency
bands and thus achieving high SPL outputs required for a realistic home theater experience.
Completing the design of the R-400C are two 8” long-throw woofers which effectively operate
from 50 Hz to 300 Hz. The twin woofers feature a unique

dual-gap motor structure that provides superior linearity
and higher undistorted output than conventional designs.
This enables the R-400C to achieve both high sensitivity
and output - incredible for a ribbon-based loudspeaker.
The Radia R-400C provides the output, power handling,
controlled dispersion and amazing clarity to make it a
perfect match for either the Radia R-800 or R-600.
