Set the lens focus mode switch to

Under these conditions, click the release button 
(⑤). When you let go of the button, the camera 
autofocuses and the picture is taken.
 
With One-Shot AF, the picture is not taken if  focus 
is not achieved. Try following the next steps to 
display Live View image and focus manually.

Display Live View image.
 
Click the Live View shooting button (⑯).

The AF/MF switch (⑥) is set to <g>, and Live 
View image is displayed.
 
If Live View image is not displayed, enable Live 
View shooting in the menu (⑮).
 
To make Live View image display more 
responsive, click the Live View image size 
switching button (⑱). Live View image is now 
displayed at a smaller size, improving 
responsiveness. To restore the original size, click 
this button again.

Manually adjust the focus.

autofocus is not supported during Live View image 
display.
