DPServer Server Software and Options
DocuPrintServer for the IBM RS/6000 (DPServer for the IBM
RS/6000)
is the core module that provides print services to DPServer
clients. DPServer for the IBM RS/6000 offers a variety of print services,
described later in this section.
Resource Management Option offers resource management
capabilities and is composed of both client-resident and server-
resident modules. (This option is referenced as RMO in Figure 4 and
Figure 6.)
Xerox Print Resources Manager for the IBM RS/6000 (XPRM) is part
of the Resource Management Option and resides on DPServer. XPRM
has three key functions: to act as a centralized repository for electronic
printer resources, to provide database management and maintenance
tools, and to respond to resource requests made by RS/6000
applications.
Xerox Print Transform Manager (XPTM) transforms data streams into
multiple device formats to extend the reach of your documents.
Accounting Option is an optional server software module that
provides extensive accounting and data collection capabilities. (This
option is referenced as AO in Figure 4.)
Xerox Print Readiness Execution Program (X-PREP) is a server-
resident utility that automatically and dynamically creates and inserts
Xerox printer commands (DJDEs) into client data streams.
How does DPServer work?
DPServer modules work together to provide an intelligent network
production printing environment. In addition to automated operation,
a full suite of job, printer, queue, and resource management functions
are available to the operator through an OSF/Motif-compliant
graphical user interface at the server. Following are discussions of
each component of DPServer and DPServer options.
