XCOUNTER FOR NOVELL USER REFERENCE MANUAL

Important Concepts
XCounter Configurations
•
Use XControl to set up configuration settings for servers and queues. The
Novell 32 bit Client for Windows (formerly called Client 32) is required to run
any of the XCounter administration utilities.
•
Queue configurations determine how XCounter handles each print job
serviced in that queue. Many options (such as those pertaining to accounting)
are specific to XCounter, others (Job notify, Banners, Form feed) provide
extensions to Novell's printing services, allowing global print job configurations
for jobs in selected queues to be defined.
•
If queue configurations are modified, the XCounter NLM’s do not need to be
restarted. They will need to be restarted however, if queues are added or
removed.
•
XCounter NLM’s only service queues located on the file server where they are
running. If require multiple file server support, then will an XCounter NLM will
need to be run on each file server where queues are defined.
•
Server configurations are global and affect all queues managed by XCounter
on the server.
•
There are 3 NLM’s included with XCounter, XCOUNT3X.NLM for bindery
mode, and XCOUNT4X.NLM for NDS mode. NDPS.NLM for NDPS mode.
•
When installing XCounter with NDPS ensure that the NDPS Manager is at
version 2.20e or above.
•
If a server needs to be configured in bindery mode, then select the server from
the Netware Servers list in XControl.
•
If a server in NDS mode needs to be configured, then browse the NDS tree in
XControl and select a server from the context where it is located.
•
When the XCounter 60 day trial period expires, all tracking will cease. When
the password key purchased and applied, tracking will resume without any re-
configuration of the program.
