Attribute Rights
This section primarily deals with credit/debit type accounting. This type of accounting
is used when the tracking, monitoring and enforcing of print quotas is required. When
using this type of accounting, ensure that the option, “Accounting” in the printer
configuration is set to “Account balances and Log file” otherwise, set it at “Log file
only” for Standard Page Accounting.

Unfortunately, NDS does not provide a global method for allowing objects to modify
other objects' Account Balances, except by granting Read/Write or Supervisor rights
to “All Attributes Rights” or “All Properties Rights” as shown in NWAdmin. Therefore,
these rights must be assigned explicitly in order to maintain user account balances.

these rights must be assigned explicitly in order to maintain user account balances.
If XCounter is not granted these rights, then balances will not be modified. XControl
provides a method to assign accounting rights to the XCounter print server - it can
assign a print server the ability to modify the account balances of all users in a
specified context. XControl will grant/revoke Read/Write rights to “All Attributes
Rights" for the XCounter print server.

Set Password
Passwords
Passwords are supported but not required. However, it is recommended that
passwords are used, as users can login to the network using print server accounts
without passwords, enabling them to access NDS (if attribute rights have been
granted to the XCounter print server) and XCounter data.

Log Location
A record of all print jobs is kept in the file “xcounter.log”. It can be located on any
volume on any Netware server, allowing all of the print data to be kept for multiple
servers in one location. If the remote server goes down, XCounter will keep the log file
in the local :SYS\SYSTEM\XCOUNTER directory. When the remote server becomes
available, XCounter will automatically reconnect and move any log data stored locally
into the remote server’s log file.

XCounter can close and rename the transaction log file at defined intervals. However,
this feature is only supported when XCounter is running on the server where the log is
located. These intervals are daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. The action will take
place at 12:00AM daily, 12:00AM Sunday weekly, 1200AM on the last day of the
month, or 12:00AM December 31. The log file rename syntax is in numeric format
Year_Month_Day. If “Never” is selected, the log file will grow indefinitely and will need
to be monitored manually.
