XCOUNTER FOR NOVELL USER REFERENCE MANUAL

Introduction
XCounter™ for Netware™

This version of XCounter is an NLM (Netware Loadable Module) which tracks printer
usage on queues located on Novell Netware file servers. Features include:
•
Counts pages on PostScript, PCL and TIFF printers.
•
Maintains user account balances using the bindery or NDS. Keeps a log file of
all print activity in a single location on the network.
•
Windows users may have a popup window for billing print jobs to clients/job
numbers.
•
Generates print activity reports based on - user, group, printer, queue, print
server, paper size, or client code.
•
Rules based printing for load balancing based on maximum and minimum byte
sizes and/or page counts – jobs can be deleted or moved to the end of the
queue, or moved to another print queue.
•
Individual prices may be set for different paper sizes, and delete print jobs that
use an invalid paper size.
•
Queue manipulation allows administrator to change print job priority within the
queue or change the number of copies. Drag and drop functionality allows
administrator to copy or move jobs to other print queues. Jobs can be
released from the queue at a set time. Job rules may be configured to queues
to allow jobs to automatically be deleted, re-prioritized within the queue or
moved to a different queue, based on job byte size or page count. Multi-
platform functionality also allows administrator to drag and drop print jobs from
NT print queues to Novell print queues or vice versa.
•
Launch menu allows for printer specific applications to run from within
XControl. The tool bar has a Launch Menu which can be configured to launch
multiple applications i.e. printer specific management programs or report
writer applications. The Xerox Network Printers web page is also launched
from the tool bar.
•
XCounter is entirely Year 2000 compliant. All dates have 4 digit year quantities
•
Printer monitoring via SNMP provides update information regarding printer
and consumable status.
