Subject: Cisco WebEx Connect Client Retirement Notification
Dear Cisco WebEx Connect Customer,
This message is being sent to key business contacts for the Cisco WebEx Connect client.
This letter provides notification that Cisco WebEx will be retiring all versions of the Cisco WebEx Connect client as of
April 2
nd
, 2015. After this date, the WebEx Connect client will no longer have access to the datacenter servers and Cisco
will no longer distribute or support the WebEx Connect desktop client. WebEx Messenger customers currently using
WebEx Connect are encouraged to begin upgrading now to the latest version of the Cisco Jabber for Windows.client.
Cisco is entirely committed to delivering the richest unified communications and collaboration experience possible. The
SaaS-based IM service previously known as Cisco WebEx Connect is now known as Cisco WebEx Messenger, and new
releases of the desktop and mobile clients are now branded as Cisco Jabber. Cisco will continue to add enhancements
and capabilities in the areas of presence, instant messaging, voice, video and web conferencing to the Messenger service
and Cisco Jabber clients.
RETIREMENT TIMELINE
In August, Cisco communicated important information relating to security updates required for the Connect desktop
clients. In this message we communicated that all Connect desktop client versions 7.2.7 or earlier must be upgraded
by December 5
th
, 2014 to maintain support and to benefit from recent security enhancements in WebEx Meeting Center.
Due to the retirement of WebEx Connect, we strongly recommend that you take this opportunity to migrate to the Cisco
Jabber for Windows client. After December 5
th
, 2014 Cisco Jabber for Windows will be the default client for WebEx
Messenger in Org Admin. Note: Administrators must set custom deployment rules in Org Admin prior to December 5
th
if
they wish to temporarily delay migrating to Cisco Jabber for Windows.
END OF SALE
Cisco will no longer offer sales of the Connect client as of April 2
nd
, 2015. In its place we will offer the Cisco Jabber for
Windows desktop client from this date forward.
END OF SUPPORT
Cisco will continue to provide existing levels of technical support for the WebEx Connect clients until April 2
nd
, 2015.
After this date, Cisco will no longer distribute or support WebEx Connect, and all customers will be required to
update their desktop client to Cisco Jabber for Windows prior to this date. Important: After April 2
nd
, the WebEx
Connect client will no longer have access to the datacenter servers. All customers must migrate their users to
Cisco Jabber for Windows by April 2
nd
to avoid any disruption in service
