• Disabling Variable Substitution in the Day-0 Configuration File—ESC by default substitutes the $

variable with the actual value in the ESC day-0 configuration file during deployment. In ESC Release
2.2.9 and later, you can disable variable ($) substitution for each configuration file.

• New bootvm.py Script Arguments—The following bootvm.py parameters are introduced:

◦--hint: Specifies the ESC server placement using filters such as, server group, samehost, and

differenthost.

◦--format {json}: Displays the success and failure indications in the output.

• Admin and Non-admin ESC User—In ESC Release 2.2.9 and later, you can create a non-admin ESC

user while installing ESC as a client user. The following bootvm.py parameter is used:

◦--user_pass: Specifies a user without administrative privileges, i.e, a non-admin/non-root user.

This user can only log into ESC through SSH, access and drive the netconf CLI, read
ESC-related logs, and access REST interface through localhost.

The non-admin user cannot access the ESC portal.

• In-Service HA Upgrade—ESC 2.2.9 Release supports In-Service HA upgrade using RPM packages

from 2.2.8 to 2.2.9 Release. For more information, see the engineering reference document, README.
