DESIGNED FOR THE SMALL OFFICE/
HOME OFFICE (SOHO) MARKET
The Allied Telesyn AR130 and AR140 SOHO Internet
Access Routers have been specifically designed to enable
small businesses and professionals to participate fully in the
Internet economy. They quickly and simply connect a small
business or home office to the Internet or corporate HQ,
using a single ISDN connection. An integral hub allows
multiple PCs to cost-effectively communicate with each
other and share the ISDN connection, providing all users
with Internet, E-mail and WWW facilities. The AR140 fea-
tures two POTs (Plain Old Telephone) ports, supporting
telephones, faxes, modems and answering machines.
AFFORDABLE AND  EASY TO  USE
The AR130 and AR140 make multi-user Internet access
easier and more affordable than ever. In one compact unit
there is LAN and Internet connectivity for the entire
office. What’s more, the routers are as easy to install as
they are to use, due to their built-in browser-based con-
figuration Wizard. Advanced features such as Network
Address Translation (NAT) support unlimited LAN users
for the cost of a single IP address while dynamic IP
address assignment and an integral DHCP server offer
easy IP address set-up.
INTEGRATED CAPI SUPPORT
The AR130 and AR140 both feature built-in support for
the Common Application Programming Interface (CAPI)
standard. This provides all CAPI applications, such as PC
faxing and on-line banking, with transparent access to the
ISDN network via the AR130/140 router. There is a five-
user RVS-COM Lite license optionally available with the
AR130/140 router, enabling existing PC clients to enjoy a
seamless transition to the many benefits of ISDN routing.
HIGH PERFORMANCE
Increasingly, the small office needs access to Internet serv-
ices such as E-mail, File Transfer and the World Wide Web.
Basic Rate ISDN provides two 64Kbps B-channels, which
can be used to provide high-speed access to two destina-
tions at the same time e.g. the Internet and Corporate HQ.
Alternatively, both B-channels can be combined to provide
128Kbps for high-speed data transfer. When further com-
bined with 4:1 STAC data compression, this can provide an
effective throughput of up to 512Kbps.
INTERNET ACCESS
•  Dual channel operation lets a user talk on the phone
while simultaneously sending or receiving data from the
head office or the Internet.
•  Dynamic IP address assignment lets the Internet Service
Provider (ISP) automatically assign the Router IP address
every time it connects.
• Support for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP) means the router can quickly & transparently
assign all local IP addresses for attached PCs, no user inter-
vention is required. Both Client & Server mode supported.
•  Voice operation is guaranteed through the use of ‘Call
Bumping’, a data call can be automatically dropped if both
B-channels are busy with data calls.
•  To control costs, a front panel ‘Call Alert’ LED warns
when an ISDN call has been active for longer than a pre-
configured length of time.
•  Full IP ‘spoofing’ and Dial on Demand operation, ISDN
calls are only made when there is data to send, eliminating
unnecessary ISDN call charges.
ROBUST SECURITY FEATURES
• PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) and CHAP
(Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol) authenti-
cation is supported for all Internet and central office con-
nections. CLI (Calling Line Identification) can also be used
to authenticate connections.
•  ISDN Callback is supported whereby the remote office
connects to the central office but the call is cleared by the
central office, which then ‘calls back’ the remote site after
authenticating the remote location. This is useful if there is
a requirement to centralize call billing at the central office.
• A powerful IP packet filter ensures network access is
restricted for users and sites who do not have the necessary
access permission. The packet filter can restrict traffic on
the basis of source/destination IP address, source/destina-
tion ports, IP protocol type and TCP flags.
SIMPLE TO  USE
•  An integrated 4 port 10T hub offers direct connection
for up to 4 local PC’s, while a color-coded ISDN cable pro-
vides the link to the wide area network.
•  Once connected, the initialization Wizard runs off the
companion CD-ROM, it automatically finds the router,
sets the IP address and launches the browser based user
interface. Internet access is set up in minutes.
•  Extensive front panel LEDs display what is happening on
the hub ports and voice and data calls are clearly indicated
on the ISDN port at all times.
•  Flash memory operation supports remote download of
free software upgrades.
NETWORK MANAGEMENT
•  SNMP, MIB II and Enterprise MIB are supported for
remote management purposes from the central office or
other location.
• The Windows based AR Remote File Manager (AR-
RFM) from Allied Telesyn, simplifies support of multiple
AR130/140 units. Router configuration files can be creat-
ed, saved in a database and automatically downloaded to
remote sites for immediate or timed activation.
•  Detailed call accounting records are available from the
AR130/140 including dialed and dialing number, duration
of call and clearing cause.
