Introduction
The purpose of this tech note is to provide a complete setup guide for a cable modem (CM) network in a lab
environment. This setup can be used as a first step before deployment to a customer network. It is important to
note that a trouble−free setup in the lab does not necessarily mean a trouble−free setup in a customers
network. In a controlled lab environment, noise may not be an issue; while in real life, it can be quite the
opposite. However, this procedure can be used to rule out issues that arise from the Cisco IOS® Software
Release, the configuration, the hardware, and Radio Frequency (RF).
