How to Increase Server Performance by
Disabling Cisco Transport Manager
Performance Monitoring Alarms
February 1, 2008
This document explains how to disable the Cisco Transport Manager (CTM) threshold alarm for
performance monitoring (PM) data collection.
Problem Summary
CTM R8.0 and earlier has a built-in mechanism to monitor the collection of PM data from individual
network elements (NEs). In the Control Panel > Alarm Configuration > Thresholds EMS Alarms tab,
there is a threshold alarm variable named “PM Collection Time (seconds).” This threshold was designed
to generate a minor, major, or critical EMS alarm if it takes CTM longer than the configured number of
seconds to collect PM data for each NE. However, it was discovered that this threshold check generates
an excessive number of Oracle triggers and creates a burden on the server. Consequently, this threshold
was removed from CTM R8.5. It is recommended that you disable this EMS threshold in CTM R8.0 and
earlier.
Solution
To disable the threshold, complete the following steps:
Step 1
Launch the CTM client and choose Administration > Control Panel > Alarm Configuration.
Step 2
In the Thresholds EMS Alarms tab, uncheck the Enable check box for the “PM Collection Time
(seconds)” alarm.
Step 3
Click Save.
