Configuring SNMPv3 on CTC-based NEs

CTM discovers, updates, and provisions SNMPv3 NE tables on CTC-based 
NEs. SNMPv3 offers the following benefits:

Provides a standards-based approach to secure monitoring.

Ensures secure transactions through authentication, transport layer 
encryption, and hashed message payloads.

Ensures that the content of each received message is protected from 
disclosure and is sent from a valid origin.

Protects message payloads from modification of information, 
masquerade security threats, and “man-in-the-middle” attacks.

Simplifies management by allowing the application of complex, granular 
access control parameters to each request. 

Requires no changes to the standard SNMP configuration. 

Enables organizations to remain compliant with federal security 
standards for cryptography-related applications.

You can configure SNMPv3 on the following CTC-based tables: 

SNMPv3 NE Users table

SNMPv3 NE MIB Views table

SNMPv3 NE Groups table

SNMPv3 NE Trap Destinations table

SNMPv3 NE Notification Filters table

If the CTC-based NE is configured as a proxy, you can configure SNMPv3 on 
these additional tables: 

SNMPv3 NE Proxy Forwarder table

SNMPv3 NE Proxy Trap Forwarder table

SNMPv3 NE Remote Users table

Qualification of new T5120 and T5220 Sun 
servers

The CTM server runs on Sun T5120 and T5220 servers.

Report CTM server availability

You can view current and historical information about NE and performance 
monitoring (PM) services.

The Service Availability table allows you to monitor the status of 
currently active services.

The Service Uptime Log allows you to view historical uptime data for 
services that were previously activated, but are currently deactivated.

Enable or disable CTM server logging

In the Logging Properties pane of the Control Panel, you can enable or disable 
CTM server logging without affecting the logging operation on other services.
