Installing a DC or DC/EQ Module in a
Multimedia Stretch Tap
Installation Instructions
Overview
Introduction
The family of Multimedia Stretch™ Taps consists of the
Multimedia Stretch Tap (MST), Surge-Gap™ Stretch Tap
(SGST), and Multimedia Stretch Tap-Technician Access
(MST-TA). The tap circuit board requires a plug-in
directional coupler (DC) module to set the tap loss value and
allow RF signals to pass through the tap. The module value is
selected for each installation to provide the proper RF level
output from the subscriber tap ports.
A directional coupler/equalizer (DC/EQ) module can be
used instead of a DC. The DC sets the tap value, while the EQ
controls the output tilt to the drop cables. Neither action by
the DC/EQ has any effect on the feeder cable signal. The
DC/EQ can equalize the tap port from 5 MHz to 1 GHz in
steps of 3 dB from 3 to 18 dB.

Installing the Module
The proper orientation of the DC or DC/EQ module depends
on the intended direction of signal flow. The following
instructions include two options:

instructions include two options:
Option 1 makes the lower left tap port the signal input
(See Option 1 diagrams).
Option 2 makes the lower left tap port the signal output

To Install the DC or DC/EQ Module
Follow these steps to install the module.
1.
1.
Locate the directional coupler socket on the tap circuit
board.
2.
Position the module to correspond with the direction of
the RF signal flow direction as shown in Option 1 or
Option 2.
Option 2.
3.
Carefully plug the module into the socket. Be sure that
all pins on the module align with the corresponding
holes in the directional coupler socket.
