This section describes how to define the following types of events as defined by the 
billing system: 

 

RPPV event-Subscribers can purchase a PPV event by placing a telephone 
call/SMS. A cable service representative (or an automated service) may order the 
event for the subscriber. 

 

IPPV event-Subscribers can purchase an IPPV event by using the DHCT remote 
control. 

 

Typically, the billing system defines PPV events automatically. However, a solid 
understanding of how the billing system defines PPV events makes it easier for you 
to correct any errors that may occur. 

Configuring the Application Server for PPV 
1  Log on to Application Server as dncs user. 
2  Create a file named “.netrc” in the /export/home/dncs directory. 
3  Add the following in the .netrc file and Save. 

 

Name of the machine <si server name> 

 

Login information (si server username having ftp permission> 

 

Password <password for the user> 

4  Change the permission of the .netrc file to Read Only using the 

"chmod 400 .netrc" command. 

Configuring the SI-Server for PPV 
1  Create the PPV BAT for each PPV service and import each BAT to all the 

SCS/MUX devices. For detailed instructions, refer the SI-Server Complete SI 
Solution User Manual (part number V599525_V00). 

2  Configure the EPG automatic import and export task. For detailed instructions, 

refer the SI-Server Complete SI Solution User Manual (part number V599525_V00). 

3  Configure SI table for PPV service. For detailed instructions, refer the SI-Server 

Complete SI Solution User Manual (part number V599525_V00). 

The billing system generates PPV events as follows: 
1  The billing system sends event definition to the Application Server. 
2  The Application Server processes the definition and sends it to the DNCS for 

packaging.
