To enter a session locking time of 5 minutes, add the following lines: 
export TIMEOUT=300 
export TMOUT=300

To enter a session locking time of 15 minutes, add the following lines: 
export TIMEOUT=900 

export TMOUT=900 

 

We recommend that you keep the session locking time to as short a time as 
possible. This helps prevent unauthorized use of your system. 

5  Save the .profile file and close the text editor. 
6  In the xterm window, type . ./.profile and press Enter. The system will use the 

updated .profile file.  
Note: Be sure to type a space between the first two periods.
