System Release 3.2
Description
System Release (SR) 3.2 is a minor release to SR 3.0 that enhances the functionality of the Digital Broadband
Delivery System (DBDS). SR 3.2 includes many great features and enhancements that were implemented at the
request of our customers. In addition, SR 3.2 provides important changes to support new CableLabs
®
 and FCC
requirements.
Features
•  On the Cutting Edge: Support for Scientific-Atlanta’s CableCARD™
module — Many manufacturers of consumer electronics plan to introduce
the next generation of digital televisions (DTVs) in the near future. With these
DTVs, consumers can use a CableCARD
module rather than a set-top box
to receive encrypted digital cable services. You may have previously heard
this device referred to as a Point of Deployment module or POD.
•  DNCS Makeover: A New Look for a New Feature — The user interfaces
for the new CableCARD module continue the migration to the new Web-
based design for the DNCS. The Web-based design provides an attractive
look and feel, but it is much more than a pretty face. DNCS operators now
have the freedom to perform critical tasks away from the headend. For
example, DNCS operators can launch the CableCARD module user
interfaces from any browser interface that communicates with the DNCS.
•  Community Service is Key: Support for New EAS Codes — Due to recent
events in this country, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has
adopted a Report and Order amending the Emergency Alert System (EAS)
rules. The amendment includes several new EAS event and location codes.
For example, the amendment includes a new Child Abduction Emergency
event code that may be used to activate Amber Alerts. SR 3.2 supports the
addition of these new event and location codes. New EAS equipment
installed by cable operators after February 1, 2004, must be able to receive
and transmit the new codes.
•  Timesaver: New Scripts for Troubleshooting and Resetting QAMs —
You can now query, audit, and reset all types of QAM modulators (QAMs,
MQAMs, and GQAMs) from the command line.
•  A New Alternative for Network Monitoring: Support for Alarm Manager
1.0 — SR 3.2 supports installation of the NMI (Network Management
Interface) software for interfacing to the DBDS Alarm Manager product.
