Deleting a User Account
Use this procedure to delete user accounts.
1.
Log into the DNCS as root.
2.
Review the user files in the user's home directory and move any files that should be retained to
another directory, outside the user's home directory.
3.
In an xterm window, type userdel -r [username] and press Enter. The system deletes the user's
home directory.
Note: Substitute the user's name for [username]. Do not type the brackets [ ] in the command.
4.
Type projdel user.[username] and press Enter. The system removes the user from the /etc/project
file.
Note: Substitute the user's name for [username]. Do not type the brackets [ ] in the command.
5.
Is the user you are deleting a Regular User?
If yes, type groupdel [username] and press Enter. The system deletes the group
associated with that user.
Note: Substitute the user's name for [username]. Do not type the brackets [ ] in the command.
If no, you are finished with this procedure.
