Cisco Prisma II Platform Technical References
Using the ICIM with Prisma II Chassis ID Numbers 41, 42, or 43
Technical Bulletin
Overview
Audience
This technical bulletin applies to customers using the Intelligent Communications
Interface Module (ICIM) in a Prisma II
™
Chassis to control standard Prisma II
application modules with software version ccbR607 or earlier, and Prisma II bdr
™
processors with software version NCCB100 or earlier.
Introduction
The ICIM can control application modules in multiple, inter-connected Prisma II
Chassis. When used in this “daisy-chained” configuration, it is required that each
connected chassis have a unique chassis ID number. This number is set using the
thumbwheel switch located on the fan tray of the chassis. For detailed instructions
on multiple chassis connections, refer to the installation instructions Installing the
ICIM with Multiple Prisma II Chassis, part number 741983.
The Issue
We have identified a condition that occurs when certain chassis ID numbers are
used. When a chassis ID is set to 41, 42, or 43, the ICIM is unable to communicate
with any of the modules in that chassis. Since the Transmission Network Control
System (TNCS) software communicates through the ICIM, it is also affected. The
Local Craft Interface (LCI) software is not affected by the chassis ID number.
This condition is related to the communications software in the modules. When the
This condition is related to the communications software in the modules. When the
ICIM is unable to communicate with the modules in a given chassis, those modules
are dropped from the ICIM’s database and a communications alarm is generated.
Prisma II modules with software version ccbR607 or earlier, and Prisma II bdr
processors with software version NCCB111, may exhibit this condition.
What To Do
If you have Prisma II products that exhibit this condition, set the affected chassis ID
switch to a number other than 41, 42, or 43.
