Performing Software Updates
Order of Update
You must update your Defense Centers before you can update the devices they manage.
Use the Defense Center to Perform the Update
Cisco recommends that you use the Defense Center’s web interface to update not only itself, but also the
devices it manages. You must use the Defense Center to update managed devices that do not have a web
interface, such as virtual devices and Sourcefire Software for X-Series. For major updates to Sourcefire
Software for X-Series, you may need to uninstall the previous version and install the new version. See
the Sourcefire Software for X-Series Installation Guide for more information.

The Product Updates page (
System > Updates
) shows the version of each update, as well as the date and
time it was generated. It also indicates whether a reboot is required as part of the update.
When you upload updates obtained from Support to your appliance, they appear on the page.
