End-of-Life Announcement
for Cisco PIX
®
Firewall
OS Version 4.4
Introduction
Software Release 4.4 for the Cisco PIX® Firewall has reached its end-of-life (EOL) milestone. This software
version will be removed from Cisco.com, effective June 26, 2002.
Cisco Systems recommends that all customers currently running Cisco PIX Firewall Release 4.4 upgrade their
software to Version 5.2(x) or later.
512 KB/2 MB Flash Memory Upgrade
Customers with Cisco PIX “Classic”, 10000, 510, and select 520 Firewall units must upgrade these units to
a minimum of 16 MB in order to run the 5.2 software train. The Cisco part number PIX-FLASH-16MB=
meets these requirements, and is available through the Cisco MarketPlace at http://www.cisco.com/public/
npm/direct_advantage.html.
Cisco PIX 515 and 525 Firewall units ship with 16 MB of Flash and are not affected. PIX 520 Firewalls
manufactured after February of 2000, with serial numbers 18025677 and higher, are not affected. The Cisco
PIX 506 has 8 MB of Flash memory, which works correctly with Version 5.2 of the software.
8/16 MB RAM Upgrade
Cisco PIX “Classic”, 10000, and 510 Firewall units must be upgraded to a minimum of 32 MB RAM in order
to run Cisco PIX Firewall Version 5.2 of the software. Cisco part number PIX-MEM-UPG-128= meets these
requirements for the “Classic” and 10000 units; Cisco part number PIX-MEM-5XX-128= meets these
requirements for the 510 Firewall units. Both are available through the Cisco MarketPlace at http://
www.cisco.com/public/npm/direct_advantage.html.
Customers with Cisco PIX 501, 506, 506E, 515, 515E, 52x, 525 or 535 Firewall units are not affected.
Support
Cisco will continue to provide support for this release through the Cisco SMARTnet™ service program.
Customers with SMARTnet service contracts are entitled to 24-hour phone support through the Cisco
Technical Assistance Center (TAC) and Advance Replacement of hardware. Cisco will support this release
until June 26, 2002. After this date, technical assistance might require an upgrade to a later release.
