DESCRIPTION
The TelPlus is an optional add-on unit that, when added to the
Advantage plus Base Module, provides a second telephone line
interface with the central monitoring console.
You can configure the TelPlus for either a second dial telephone
interface, or as the Advantage plus’ primary dedicated telephone
line then using the Base Module’s telephone interface for a
backup dial communication line.
NOTE: You can configure the Base Module’s telephone line
connection for either dial line or dedicated line connec-
tion (but not both). Use the TelPlus to provide a second
telephone line interface.
When providing a second dial telephone line, the TelPlus provides
telephone line monitoring and automatic house telephone disconnec-
tion for the second line (similar to Base Module operation).
CALCULATING BATTERY STANDBY
Before installation you must add the TelPlus’s Normal Standby
current (0 mA), Alarm current (45 mA) to the Base Module’s standby
battery calculations.
To properly calculate the backup battery capacity you MUST
evaluate the Normal Standby and the Alarm current required by all
devices powered by the Base Module. Calculate the connected
devices’ Ampere-Hour requirements using the following factors:
• the total standby load
• hours of required standby operation
   • the required duration of alarm signaling (normally 4 minutes
for residential fire, 15 minutes for commercial burglary).
NOTE: See the “Advantage plus Installation Instructions”
(P/N 09820450) for complete details.
INSTALLATION
TELPLUS OPTIONS
1. In the SONICS Modify-ASOP-Equipment screen, select the
TelPlus Module.
2. In the SONICS Modify-ASOP-Phone options screen,  select
the following options:
• Telephone Number
• The Dialing Sequence (see Dialing Sequence later in these
instructions)
• Enable Line Monitor
TELPLUS MOUNTING
The TelPlus plugs onto the Base Module as a daughter board, using
the Base Module’s J9 connector and a nylon  standoff for support.
1. Carefully press the flanged end of the supplied standoff into the
hole just to the right of the Base Module’s J9 connector.
2. Align the TelPlus connector pins with Base Module J9 and
carefully press into place.
3. Gently press the nylon standoff into the hole on the right of the
TelPlus board.
4. Connect the TelPlus board’s green Earth Ground cable to the
chassis Earth Ground stud along with the Base Module’s Earth
Ground cable.
SECONDARY DIAL LINE INSTALLATION
The required RJ cord and external RJ31X jack are supplied in the
installation kit. Refer to Figure 1 throughout the installation and
setup procedure.
1. Install the external RJ31X jack in a location near the Advan-
tage plus  chassis and make all necessary telephone line
connections.
UL Fire and Burglary installations must use the fused RJ31X
jack included in the ULB and ULF Installation Kits.
NOTE: Local codes and/or ordinances may require that your
local telephone company make these connections.
2. MAKE SURE TelPlus DIAL jumpers JP1 and JP2 are installed,
and jumpers JP3 and JP4 are removed. This configures the
TelPlus for secondary dial line operation.
3. Plug the RJ cord into the external jack, route into the chassis,
and plug the other end to the TelPlus RJ jack (J2).
4. Inside the RJ31X jack, connect the telephone line to pins 4 and
5, and connect the house telephone to pins 1 and 8.
See the Advantage plus Service Manual (P/N 09820460) for operational theory and service procedures.
See the SONICS Database Management Manual (P/N 09820426) for options programming procedures.
