ONFIGURING
 SNMP

Set the minimum level of security allowed for SNMP message 
exchanges.

Configure a notification profile or modify the default one, to enable 
sending of notifications to notification targets. By default, 
notifications of all types are dropped (not sent).

Configure notification targets.
„
Enable the MSS SNMP engine.
Setting the System
Location and Contact
Strings
To set the location and contact strings for a switch, use the following 
commands:
set system location string
set system contact string
Each string can be up to 256 characters long, with no blank spaces.
The following commands set a WX switch’s location to 3rd_floor_closet 
and set the contact to sysadmin1:
WX4400# set system location 3rd_floor_closet
success: change accepted.
WX4400# set system contact sysadmin1
success: change accepted.
Enabling SNMP
Versions
To enable an SNMP protocol, use the following command:
set snmp protocol {v1 | v2c | usm all} {enable | disable}
The usm option enables SNMPv3. The all option enables all three 
versions of SNMP. 
The following command enables all SNMP versions:
WX4400# set snmp protocol all enable
success: change accepted.
Configuring
Community Strings
(SNMPv1 and
SNMPv2c Only)
To configure a community string for SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c, use the 
following command:
set snmp community name comm-string 
access 
{read-only | read-notify | notify-only | read-write 
notify-read-write}
