You can update software by specifying a device on your LAN where you will place new
software for the update (see
“Defining TFTP Parameters”
 on
page 36
). Then, use the procedure
“Updating Software” on page 77
to download new software from the TFTP device to the
Megabit Modem 400F, 500L, 600F, and 700F.
Through the RS-232 MGMT port on the Megabit Modem 600F and 700F, you can change the
modem LAN port IP address and network mask, the default gateway IP address, and the IP
address for the device on the LAN that can administer the modem (see
page 80
).
Updating Software
Updating software images in binary format require the use of a TFTP server. The TFTP server
stores the files which will be downloaded to your modem. This guide assumes that you have
correctly set up your TFTP server on the same subnet as the modem and that the appropriate
files are available to download.
When updating software remotely, file corruption is a major concern. For example, if an image
file altered during the TFTP process the modem may not restore its connections after a system
reset. To eliminate such possibilities, the modem software performs a CRC check for the
integrity of each file after it has been downloaded.
