Reproduces the sound characteristics of the 
Sony Pictures Entertainment “Kim Novak 
Theater” cinema production studio. This mode 
is ideal for watching science-fiction or action 
movies with lots of sound effects.

Reproduces the sound characteristics of the 
Sony Pictures Entertainment scoring stage. This 
mode is ideal for watching musicals or classic 
films where music is featured in the soundtrack.

• The effects provided by the virtual speakers may 

cause increased noise in the playback signal.

• When listening with sound fields that employ virtual 

speakers, you will not be able to hear any sound 
coming directly from the surround speakers.

• When playing a soundtrack with a sampling 

frequency of 96 kHz, the signal is converted as 
48 kHz and output.

C.ST.EX A, EX B and EX C use DCS 
technology. In the collaboration with Sony 
Pictures Entertainment, Sony measured the 
sound environment of their studios and 
integrated the data of the measurement and 
Sony’s own DSP (Digital Signal Processor) 
technology to develop “Digital Cinema Sound”. 
“Digital Cinema Sound” simulates in a home 
theater an ideal movie theater sound 
environment based on the preference of movie 
director.

Press SOUND FIELD + or – repeatedly until 
“A.F.D. AUTO” or “2CH STEREO” appears.

During recording, the speaker output is fixed to “2CH” 
and the sound field is fixed to “2CH STEREO”.

You can reinforce the bass and create a more 
powerful sound.

Each time you press the button, the display 
changes cyclically as follows:

* DDSG: Digital Dynamic Sound Generator

When the speaker output is set to “5.1CH” or “2.1CH”, 
the bass level can be adjusted by adjusting the 
subwoofer sound level to obtain a more powerful 
sound. For details, see “Adjusting the speaker volume 
and level” on page 37.
