In Case of Trouble
Before requesting technical support, please check once more whether
there is indeed a problem with the drive. Once you have ascertained
that the drive is at fault, contact your supplier or the Technical Support
Service Centre listed in the separate “Technical Support Information”.
Symptom
The drive is not recognized
by the PC, or it fails to
operate properly.
Audio is heard to skip or
data cannot be read from a
disc.
The disc does not eject.
Cause/Remedy
t
The power connector or interface cable may not be properly
connected. Refer to the “Quick Start Guide” chapter to
verify the connections are correct. Also, verify that the
connectors are firmly mated at the drive and PC ends.
t
The interface cable may be connected backwards. Refer to
the “Quick Start Guide” chapter to verify that pin 1 of the
drive is connected to pin 1 at the PC side.
t
The Master/Slave drive settings may be incorrect. Refer to
the “Quick Start Guide” chapter to verify the correct jumper
settings on the rear of the drive.
t
In some cases, settings must also be made at the PC side
to match the Master/Slave setting of the drive. BIOS
settings or jumpers on an external hard drive may need to
be changed. Refer to the PC’s operating manual, or contact
the manufacturer or customer service office for your PC.
t
The disc may be inserted upside down (the label should
face upwards).
t
The disc may be incompatible. Refer to Compatible Discs
(page 11).
t
The disc may need to be cleaned.
t
The disc may be scratched. Try another disc to verify that
the drive works properly.
t
Condensation may have formed on the disc or in the drive.
Remove the disc and wait about an hour.
t
The Eject button cannot be used to eject a disc when the
power to the drive (PC) is off.
t
The disc cannot be ejected while it is being written to.
Follow the procedure in the writing software to eject the
disc.
t
The PC may be hung due to an unrelated cause. If so, turn
the PC off and back on.
t
If the disc cannot be ejected despite the above, push a thin
tool into the Emergency Eject Hole.
