The following operations are used
by a combination of the
FUNCTION button with other
operating buttons.
The combination of the
FUNCTION button can only be
used on the main unit.

To skip a long blank
space between musics
(BL SKIP function)
 (see Fig. D-c)

While holding down
FUNCTION, press the FF
button. The BL SKIP indicator
will be lit.
To cancel the BL SKIP mode,
hold down FUNCTION and
then press FF. Then the BL
SKIP indicator goes off.

Note on BL SKIP
• For the BL SKIP function, you need

a blank of 12 seconds or longer
between the tracks. Therefore, if
there is noise between the tracks,
these functions will not detect the
blank and will not operate.
Likewise, if the recording level is
moderately low within a track, this
function may inaccurately operate.

To play a tape recorded
with Dolby* NR system
(see Fig. D-d)

Protecting Your Hearing
(AVLS) (see Fig. E)

When AVLS (Automatic Volume
Limiter System) is turned on, the
maximum volume is kept down to
protect your ears.

While holding down
FUNCTION, press REW.
The AVLS indicator will be lit.
To cancel the AVLS, while
holding down FUNCTION,
press REW. The AVLS indicator
goes off.

Press and hold SOUND•AVLS
for two seconds or more. “

To cancel, press SOUND•AVLS
again.

Note
• If the sound is distorted when you

listen to the bass-boosted sound
with the AVLS, turn down the
volume.

Notes on FUNCTION
• Even when the tape is stopped, the

FUNCTION may be operated.
When FUNCTION and other
operating buttons are pressed the
LED lamp will light to show the
present mode, and when
FUNCTION and other operating
buttons are released, the LED will go
off.

• Do not press the FUNCTION button

on the Walkman when switching
SOUND • AVLS on the remote
control.

Slide HOLD in the direction of
the arrow.
When you press any button,
“Hold” appears in the display.
To unlock, slide HOLD in the
opposite direction of the arrow.

Slide HOLD so that the HOLD
indicator turns yellow.
To unlock, slide HOLD so that
the yellow HOLD indicator is
hidden.

Do not carry the dry batteries with
coins or other metallic objects. It
can generate heat if the positive
and negative terminals of the
batteries are accidentally contacted
by a metallic object.

• Do not drop the unit or give a

shock to the unit, or it may cause
a malfunction.

• Do not leave the unit in a location

near heat sources, or in a
place subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust or sand, moisture,
rain, mechanical shock, or in a car
with its windows closed.

• (EX562 only) The LCD display

may become hard to see or slow
down when using the unit at high
temperatures (above 40°C/104°F)
or at low temperatures (below
0°C/32°F). At room temperature,
the display will return to its
normal operating condition.

• If the unit has not been used for

long, set it in the playback mode
and warm it up for a few minutes
before inserting a tape.

We do not recommend the use of
tapes longer than 90 minutes
except for a long continuous
playback. They are very thin and
tend to be stretched easily.

Use the supplied remote control
only with this unit.

Road safety
Do not use headphones/earphones
while driving, cycling, or operating
any motorized vehicle. It may
create a traffic hazard and is illegal
in some areas. It can also be
potentially dangerous to play your
headphones/earphones at high
volume while walking, especially
at pedestrian crossings.
You should exercise extreme
caution or discontinue use in
potentially hazardous situations.

Preventing hearing damage
Do not use headphones/earphones
at high volume. Hearing experts
advise against continuous, loud
and extended play. If you
experience a ringing in your ears,
reduce volume or discontinue use.

Caring for others
Keep the volume at a moderate
level. This will allow you to hear
outside sounds and to be
considerate to the people around
you.

Use the cleaning cassette CHK-1
(not supplied) every 10 hours of
use.

Note
• Use only the recommended cleaning

cassette.

Use a soft cloth slightly moistened
in water. Do not use alcohol,
benzine or thinner.

Note
• Clean the headphones/earphones

plug periodically.

The cassette holder does not
open.
• If the tape is playing, stop and

then slide OPEN.

• This condition may occur when

you remove the power sources
during playback, or when you use
exhausted dry battery. Set the
power sources again or replace
the exhausted battery with a new
one.

The volume cannnot be turned
up.
• Set AVLS to off.

When operating the remote
control, press and hold
SOUND•AVLS until ”

Hinweis zur BL SKIP-Funktion
• Die Leerstellensprung funktion

arbeitet nur, wenn die Leerstelle
zwischen den Titeln länger als 12
Sekunden ist.
Beachten Sie Sie jedoch, daß bei
verrauschten Leerstellen diese
Funktion nicht einwandfrei arbeitet
und längere Titelpassagen mit sehr
niedrigem Pegel fälschlicherweise
als Leerstellen gewertet werden.

Automatische
Lautstärkebegrenzung
–AVLS-Funktion
(siehe Abb. E)

Die AVLS-Funktion (Automatic
Volume Limiter System) begrenzt
den maximalen Lautstärkepegel
auf einen Pegel, der für Ihre
Hörorgane unschädlich ist.

Halten Sie FUNCTION
gedrückt und drücken Sie
gleichzeitig REW.
Die AVLS-Anzeige leuchtet auf.
Zum Abschalten der AVLS-
Funktion drücken Sie REW
erneut, während Sie gleichzeitig
FUNCTION gedrückt halten. Die
AVLS-Anzeige erlischt.

Halten Sie SOUND•AVLS
mindestens 2 Sekunden
gedrückt. „

”  erscheint dann

im Display.
Zum Abschalten drücken Sie
SOUND•AVLS erneut.

Hinweis
• Bei eingeschalteter Baßanhebung

verursacht die AVLS-Funktion
manchmal Verzerrungen.
Reduzieren Sie in einem solchen Fall
die Lautstärke.

Hinweise zur FUNCTION-Taste
• Die FUNCTION-Taste arbeitet auch

bei gestopptem Band. Wird die
FUNCTION-Taste gedrückt, zeigt
die LED den momentanen
Betriebsmodus an. Wenn die
FUNCTION-Taste (und die andere
Taste) losgelassen wird, erlischt die
LED wieder.

• Drücken die FUNCTION-Taste am

Walkman nicht, wenn SieSOUND •
AVLS an der Fernbedienung
umschalten.

Verwendung der
Fernbedienung
(siehe Abb. F)

Schieben Sie HOLD in
Pfeilrichtung.
Beim Drücken einer Taste
erscheint dann die Anzeige
„Hold” im Display.
Zum Abschalten der Sperrung
schieben Sie HOLD in die
entgegengesetzte Pfeilrichtung.

Stellen Sie HOLD so ein, daß
die HOLD-Anzeige gelb ist.
Zum Abschalten der Sperrung
stellen Sie HOLD so ein, daß
die gelbe HOLD-Anzeige
verdeckt ist.

Stecken Sie keine Batterien zusammen
mit Metallgegenstände in eine Tasche,
da es sonst durch Kurzschluß der
Batteriekontakte zu Hitzeentwicklung
kommen kann.

• Lassen Sie das Gerät nicht fallen und

stoßen Sie es nirgends an, da es
sonst zu Störungen kommen kann.

• Stellen Sie das Gerät nicht in die

Nähe von Wärmequellen und auch
nicht an Plätze, die prallem
Sonnenlicht, Sand, Staub,
Feuchtigkeit oder Regen ausgesetzt
sind. Lassen Sie es auch nicht in
einem in der prallen Sonne
geparkten Wagen zurück.

• (Nur EX562) Wenn die

Umgebungstemperatur sehr hoch
(über 40 °C) oder sehr niedrig (unter
0 °C) ist, sind die Anzeigen im
Display möglicherweise nur schwer
zu sehen und das Display arbeitet
sehr träge. Sobald das Gerät wieder
Zimmertemperatur ausgesetzt wird,
arbeitet das Display wieder normal.

• Wenn das Gerät längere Zeit nicht

verwendet worden ist, schalten Sie
es einige Minuten ohne Cassette auf
Wiedergabe, damit es sich etwas
aufwärmt.

Cassetten mit einer Spielzeit von 90
Minuten oder mehr sollten nur
verwendet werden, wenn eine lange
durchgehende. Wiedergabezeit
unbedingt erforderlich ist. Da das
Band dieser Cassetten sehr dünn ist,
kann es sich leicht verziehen.

Verwenden Sie die mitgelieferte
Fernbedienung nur zusammen mit
diesem Gerät.

Verkehrssicherheit
Verwenden Sie beim Autofahren,
Fahrradfahren oder Betrieb irgendeines
motorisierten Fahrzeugs keinen
Kopfhörer/Ohrhörer, da dies
gefährlich und in vielen Ländern
gesetzlich verboten ist. Auch beim
Gehen kann Kopfhörer- /Ohrhörer-
betrieb mit hoher Lautstärke gefährlich
sein, insbesondere an Kreuzungen und
Fußgänger-überwegen. Nehmen Sie
den Kopfhörer/Ohrhörer in
Gefahrensituationen sofort ab.

Vermeidung von Gehörschäden
Betreiben Sie den Kopfhörer/
Ohrhörer nicht mit hoher Lautstärke,
da dies schädlich für Ihre Hörorgane
ist. Wenn Sie ein dumpfes Gefühl in
Ihren Ohren verspüren, reduzieren Sie
die Lautstärke oder nehmen Sie den
Kopfhörer/Ohrhörer ab.

Rücksicht auf andere
Stellen Sie stets nur einen mäßigen
Lautstärkepegel ein. So können Sie
Außengeräusche noch wahrnehmen,
und andere Leute werden nicht gestört.

Reinigen Sie diese Teile nach
jeweils 10 Betriebsstunden mit der
Reinigungscassette CHK-1 (nicht
mitgeliefert).

Hinweis
• Verwenden Sie nur die empfohlene

Reinigungscassette.

Zur Reinigung des Gehäuses
verwenden Sie ein weiches, leicht
mit Wasser angefeuchtetes Tuch.
Alkohol, Benzin oder Verdünner
dürfen nicht verwendet werden.

Hinweis
• Reinigen Sie auch die Kopfhörer-/

Ohrhörerbuchse regelmäßig.

Der Cassettenhalter läßt sich nicht
öffnen.
• Wenn das Band läuft, stoppen Sie

es, und betätigen Sie dann OPEN.

• Während der Wiedergabe wurde

die Stromquelle abgetrennt oder
die Batterie ist erschöpft. Bringen
sie die Stromquelle wieder an
bzw. wechseln Sie die Batterie
aus.

Die Lautstärke läßt sich nicht
erhöhen.
• Schalten Sie AVLS aus.

Bei Verwendung der
Fernbedienung halten Sie
SOUND•AVLS gedrückt, bis
„

” erlischt (nur EX562).

Während der Wiedergabe
beginnt plötzlich der
Vorspulvorgang.
• Schalten Sie BL SKIP aus.

(AVLS) (voir Fig. E)

Lorsque vous activez la fonction
AVLS (réduction automatique du
volume), le volume maximal est
limité pour vous protéger l’ouïe.

Tout en tenant FUNCTION
enfoncée, appuyez sur REW.
L’indicateur AVLS s’allume.
Pour annuler la fonction AVLS,
tenez FUNCTION enfoncée et
appuyez sur REW quand
l’indicateur AVLS s’éteint.

Appuyez pendant au moins
deux secondes sur
SOUND•AVLS jusqu’à ce que
“

” apparaisse.

Pour annuler la fonction,
appuyez une nouvelle fois sur
SOUND•AVLS.

Remarque
• Si le son présente de la distorsion

quand les graves sont amplifiés et
que la fonction AVLS est utilisée,
réduisez le volume.

Remarques sur la touche
FUNCTION
• Même si le lecteur est arrêté, la

touche FUNCTION est
opérationnelle. Quand vous
appuyez sur FUNCTION, la LED
s’allume pour indiquer le mode
actuel, et quand la touche
FUNCTION et d’autres touches
d’exploitation sont désactivées, la
LED s’éteint.

• Ne pas appuyer sur la touche

FUNCTION de l’appareil quand
vous réglez SOUND • AVLS sur la
télécommande.

Poussez HOLD dans le sens de
la flèche.
Quand vous appuyez sur une

en combinaison avec d’autres
touches.

passage vierge entre les

Remarque sur la fonction BL SKIP
• Pour utiliser la fonction BL SKIP,

l’espace vierge entre les plages doit
être d’au moins 12 secondes. Donc si
l’espace entre les plages est parasité,
il ne pourra pas être détecté. De
même, si le niveau d’enregistrement
est extrêmement faible sur une
plage, cette fonction peut être
déclenchée par erreur.

Amplification des graves

L’indicateur MB ou GRV du
mode SOUND s’allume et les
deux indicateurs sont
successivement affichés chaque
fois que vous appuyez sur
œ • REPEAT.
MB ou GRV doit s’allumer quand
le mode SOUND est utilisé.
Pour annuler le mode SOUND,
tenez FUNCTION enfoncée et
appuyez de façon répétée sur
œ • REPEAT jusqu’à ce que les
indicateurs MB et GRV
s’éteignent.

Ne pas porter la pile sèche avec
des pièces de monnaie ou d’autres
objets métalliques. Le contact des
bornes positive et négative avec un
objet métallique peut générer de la
chaleur.

• Ne pas laisser tomber l’appareil

ou lui faire subir des chocs, afin
d’éviter tout problème de
fonctionnement.

• Ne pas exposer l’appareil à une

source de chaleur, au soleil, à la
poussière, au sable, à l’humidité, à
la pluie, à des chocs mécaniques
et ne pas le laisser dans une
voiture garée en plein soleil,
toutes fenêtres closes.

• (EX562 seulement) L’afficheur

LCD risque d’être à peine visible
ou de réagir lentement si vous
utilisez l’appareil à des
températures élevées (supérieures
à 40°C) ou basses (inférieures à
0°C). Il redeviendra normal à la
température normale d’une pièce.

• Si l’appareil n’a pas été utilisé

pendant longtemps, mettez-le en
mode de lecture et laissez-le
chauffer pendant quelques
minutes avant d’insérer une
cassette.

Il n’est pas conseillé d’utiliser les
cassettes de plus de 90 minutes,
sauf pour une lecture de longue
durée. Les bandes de ces cassettes
sont très fines et ont tendance à se
détendre.

Utilisez la télécommande fourni
avec cet appareil.

Sécurité routière
Ne vous servez pas des écouteurs
ou d'un casque pendant la
conduite d’une voiture, d’une
moto ou de tout autre véhicule
motorisé, afin d’éviter tout
accident de la circulation. En outre,
il est interdit dans certains pays
d’utiliser un casque ou des
écouteurs en conduisant.
Il peut être également dangereux
d’écouter à volume élevé tout en
marchant, spécialement aux
croisements. Soyez toujours
extrêmement prudent et cessez
d’utiliser cet appareil dans les
situations présentant des risques
d’accident.

Prévention des dommages
auditifs
Evitez d’utiliser les écouteurs ou le
casque à volume élevé. Les
médecins déconseillent une écoute
continuelle à volume trop élevé. Si
vous percevez un sifflement dans
les oreilles, mieux vaut réduire le
volume ou cesser d’écouter.

Ne gênez pas les personnes qui
vous entourent
Maintenez un volume modéré
d’écoute. Vous pourrez ainsi
entendre les sons extérieurs et être
attentifs aux gens qui vous
entourent.

Utilisez une cassette de nettoyage
CHK-1 (non fournie) toutes les 10
heures d’écoute.

Remarque
• Utilisez la cassette de nettoyage

recommandée.

Utilisez un chiffon doux
légèrement mouillé. Ne pas utiliser
d’alcool, de benzine ni de diluant.

Remarque
• Nettoyez régulièrement la fiche des

écouteurs ou du casque.

Le logement de la cassette ne
s’ouvre pas.
• Si la cassette est en cours de

lecture, arrêtez l’appareil et
poussez OPEN.

• Ceci peut arriver quand vous

débranchez la source
d’alimentation en cours de
lecture, ou lorsque vous utilisez
une pile usée. Rebranchez la
source d’alimentation ou
remplacez la pile usée par une
neuve.

Le volume ne peut pas être
augmenté.
• Réglez AVLS sur arrêt.

Quand vous utilisez la
télécommande, appuyez en
continu sur SOUND•AVLS
jusqu’à ce que “

” disparaisse

La bande se rembobine d’elle-
