NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by 
periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the 
computer).  

1.  Follow the instructions in 

Before You Begin.  

2.  Turn the computer right-side up and open it.  

3.  Remove the hinge cover (see 

Removing the Hinge Cover).  

 

Do not remove the keyboard from the keyboard tray!  You are removing the entire 

tray, not just the keyboard.  The normal keyboard screws above the keyboard attach the 
keyboard to the tray.  See next step for keyboard tray removal. 

4.  Loosen the fifteen keyboard tray captive screws.

NOTE: Lift the keyboard carefully in step 5 to ensure that you do not pull on the keyboard cable.  

5.  Lift the keyboard tray slightly.  

6.  Pull up on the pull-tab to disconnect the keyboard cable connector from the keyboard 

connector on the system board.
