OPERATIONAL GUIDE
CE DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY
SELECTING SETPOINT
The meter allows to select the setpoint value that will act on
the alarm contact.
Press the SET key. The corresponding
led will light up and the display will
show the default or previously se-
lected value.
Adjust the SET trimmer on the front
panel by using a small screwdriver,
until the required setpoint value is
displayed.
CALIBRATION
Press the MEAS key. Immerse the probe in a solution of
known resistivity value. Wait for the reading to stabilize.
Adjust the calibration trimmer on the
top of the meter until the resistivity
value of calibration solution is displayed.
SELECTING TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT
The reading is automatically corrected for temperature variations
by using the linear compensation method:
R
25
=R
t
(1+
β
(t-25))
where R
t
is the resistivity at the temperature t.
The reference temperature is 25ºC.
The temperature coefficient
β
 is selectable through the
jumpers on rear panel.
To select
β
 = 4.5%/ºC, close the
jumper on the left:
To select
β
 = 3.5%/ºC, close the
upper jumper:
To select
β
 = 2.4%/ºC, close the
lower jumper:
Note :  if the coefficient 4.5%/ºC is selected, a minimum
measurement temperature of 10ºC is suggested to maintain
the best accuracy of the meter.
POWER CONNECTION
HI 983314-0 and HI 98331400
Connect a 2-wire power cable to the terminal strip while
paying attention to the correct positive and negative con-
tacts (12 VDC).
HI 983314-1
Connect a 3-wire power cable to the terminal strip while
paying attention to the correct earth, neutral and line
contacts (115/230 VAC).
Notes:
• All external cables connected to the rear panel should
   end with wire lugs.
• It is recommended to cover the unused terminals with
   insulating tape.
• At start up the meter needs a few seconds to stabilize.
Wait until a stable reading is displayed.
ALARM CONTACT
Use this contact for connection to an alarm or dosing system.
The unit acts as a switch to control an external device.
When readings are higher than selected setpoint (+Hyster-
esis), the relay contact is open and the “ABOVE” led lights
up. If measurements are lower than setpoint (-Hysteresis),
the relay contact is closed and the “BELOW” led lights up.
The Hysteresis is typically 0.20 M
Ω
/cm around setpoint.
Note : the relay contacts are not internally fuse protected.
TAKING MEASUREMENTS
Attach the resistivity probe to the
meter and immerse it in the solution
to be monitored while making sure
that the metal pins are completely
submerged.
Press the MEAS key, if necessary.
The corresponding led will light up
to indicate that you are operating
in measurement mode.
Wait for a few seconds to allow
stabilization of reading. The resistivity value of the solution
will be displayed on the LCD in M
Ω
/cm unit.
MECHANICAL DIMENSIONS AND ASSEMBLING OF PANEL-
MOUNTED UNIT
The supplied adjustable location brackets allow the controller to
slide into the cutout of the panel, and will hold the unit in
place. 95 mm (3.74’’) is the minimum of space required to
install the controller.

Recommendations for Users
Before using these products, make sure that they are entirely suitable for the
environment in which they are used. Operation of these instruments in residential
areas could cause unacceptable interferences to radio and TV equipment. The
metal band at the end of the probe is sensitive to electrostatic discharges. Avoid
touching this metal band at all times. During operation, ESD wrist straps should be
worn to avoid possible damage to the probe by electrostatic discharges. Any
variation introduced by the user to the supplied equipment may degrade the
instrument’s EMC performance.
To avoid electrical shock, do not use these instruments when voltage at the
measurement surface exceeds 24 VAC or 60 VDC. Use plastic beakers to minimize
any EMC interferences.
To avoid damage or burns, do not perform any measurement in microwave ovens.
ERROR MESSAGES
Problems with probe connections, or tem-
perature too low to assure correct reading.
Over range condition.
