Set speakers and test speaker output
The unit checks each speaker’s connection status and make speaker settings automatically.
• Automatic detection does not work well depending on speakers and cables.
Make speaker settings manually in such cases (
á
 page 35).
• These settings remain effective after the unit goes off.
• The unit considers seven speakers and one subwoofer are connected to the unit (keeps factory settings) unless you perform these steps.
• Perform the above steps when you connect a new speaker.
Detecting speakers automatically

To turn the unit on
Press  
• The standby indicator “^” goes off when
you turn the unit on.

To check the speaker 
presence
Press  
simultaneously.
Automatic speaker detection starts.
WARNING ” messages may appear on the display depending on detection results.
The right surround back speaker was detected, but the unit did not detect the left surround back
speaker. Use the terminal for the left speaker when you connect one surround back speaker only
(á page 9).
The unit did not detect left and right surround speakers.
Connect surround speakers as well when you connect surround back speakers to the unit.
The unit did not detect one of the two surround speakers.
Check speaker connections.

AUTO DETECTOR 
The unit checks the center speaker, surround
speakers, surround back speakers and the
subwoofer in that order. 
(The connection status for front speakers is always
present.)
The display shows the number of detected speakers
(excluding the subwoofer).
The display shows connected speakers.
When automatic detection is finished, the display
returns to the original.
