How to receive phone calls and faxes
You have to answer all calls manually.
To receive a fax document, press MxN and then M2N.
9.4.3 Use as a telephone and/or fax (TEL/FAX

Your situation
You want to answer phone calls yourself and receive
faxes automatically without the unit ringing.
Setup
Set the unit to TEL/FAX mode (page 65) by pressing
MvN (G) repeatedly.
R The MvN (G) light turns OFF.

How phone calls and faxes are received
If the call is a phone call, the unit will ring.
If a fax calling tone is detected, the unit will receive the
fax automatically without ringing.
9.4.4 Use with an answering machine
Your situation
You want to use the unit with an answering machine.
Setup
Connect an extension telephone answering machine
and set the ring count of the answering machine to less
than 4.
R Set the ring count in FAX ONLY mode of the unit to
more than 4, if you use with auto answer ON.
How to receive calls
When receiving phone calls, the answering machine will
record voice messages.

Press MvN (G) repeatedly to display “FAX ONLY
MODE”

R The display will show the ring count in FAX ONLY
mode. If you wish to change it, press MCN or MDN (R)
repeatedly to display the desired setting, and press
MOKN (F).

How faxes are received
When receiving calls, the unit will automatically answer
all calls and only receive fax documents.
Note:
R The number of rings before a call is answered in FAX
ONLY mode can be changed (feature #210 on
page 76).
R You can set duplex print for fax reception (feature
R Received faxes may be stored in memory depending
on the paper size settings. See feature #380 on
page 76 and feature #382 on page 77 for details.
R A4 or letter size recording paper is recommended.
