Installing the KX-P8420 on a
Windows Peer to Peer Network.
Overview
The KX-P8420 understands Windows 95/98 peer to peer protocol (SMB).   Unlike other
printers, third party spooling programs are not necessary when printing to the KX-P8420
in an SMB environment.
Considerations
1) All workstations that will be printing to the KX-P8420 must be setup using SMB
protocol (“File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks” service must be installed
on each workstation).  All workstations must have valid TCP\IP addresses, Subnet
masks, and Default gateways.
2) Windows SMB is a peer to peer network protocol, any clients printing to the KX-
P8420 using SMB must be on the same network segment.
3) The KX-P8420 must be assigned a valid, unique TCP\IP address using the same
numbering scheme as the workstations.
4) WebTools are required to setup and enable SMB in the KX-P8420.  WebTools
require TCP\IP protocol and a JAVA enabled web browser (Netscape 3.02 and
Internet Explorer 4.0 or above).  To display WebTools properly the display resolution
must be 800 X 600 or higher.
