Troubleshooting guide
Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the 
remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions.

Battery
Cannot use a battery that can 
still be used on other equipment.
•  The unit considers the battery to be empty at the point in time when the battery 
level becomes low.
Operations
The unit does not start.
•  Make sure the battery is correctly inserted. Remove the battery completely 
and then insert it back into the unit again. Also try replacing the battery with a 
new one.
•  The Hold function is on. Switch Hold off. (➜ page 8)
•  You cannot operate on this unit when the unit is connected to a computer.
No operation.
•  The Hold function is on. Switch Hold off. (➜ page 8)
•  You cannot operate on this unit when the unit is connected to a computer.
Recording
The memory is used 
completely earlier than 
expected.
•  The length of time that recording is possible greatly differs depending on the 
sound quality. (➜ page 51) Select the sound quality according to the purpose 
of use. (➜ page 16)
•  Is much data stored? Delete unnecessary files. (➜ page 14)
Recording is suspended by 
itself.
•  VAS is functioning. (➜ page 18)
Howling occurs when listening 
to the recording in progress 
with earphones.
•  Turn down the volume. (➜ pages 13, 31)
•  Keep earphones and this unit separate. (➜ page 31)
•  When you are using an external microphone, keep earphones and external 
microphone separate.
