 Announcement of Catalyst 3512 XL,
3524 XL, and 3548 XL Switches
Overview
Cisco is announcing the end-of-sale (EOS) of the Cisco Catalyst
®
 3512 XL, 3524 XL and
3548 XL switches, as per the descriptions and schedule detailed below. The replacement
products are the Cisco Catalyst 3550 and 2950 Series Intelligent Ethernet switches. In
particular, Cisco recommends customers migrate from Catalyst 3524 XL and 3548 XL
switches to Catalyst 3550-24 and 3550-48 switches. These products provide premium
functionality at the same price as the existing Catalyst 3524 XL and 3548 XL switches.
Catalyst 3512 XL customers can migrate to the Catalyst 2950G-12 switch, which provides
equivalent port density, but at a lower price. The new Catalyst 3550 and 2950 Series switches
make it more affordable than ever to deploy Layer 2-4 intelligent services at the network edge.
The last order date for affected products is July 27, 2002. Last-time buys for the EOS
products must be placed before orderability is turned off on July 27, 2002.
Note: This announcement does not include the Catalyst 3524-PWR XL or the Catalyst
3508G XL switches. These switches will continue to be offered by Cisco. The Catalyst
3524-PWR XL Switch provides 24-ports of 10/100 switching with two Gigabit Interface
Converter (GBIC) ports and is the leading stackable in-line power solution in the industry.
The Catalyst 3508G XL Switch is a cost-effective solution that provides Layer 2 stack
aggregation with 8 GBIC ports.
