announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates of selective Cisco
®
Catalyst 6503, Catalyst 6506 and Catalyst
6509 Chassis and low speed fan modules. The replacement chassis are the Cisco
®
Catalyst 6503-E, 6506-E and 6509-E
chassis that has been shipping for over a year.
The Cisco Catalyst E series chassis offers more features and benefits such as:
•
Increased power scalability for maximum PoE port density per chassis.
•
The 6503-E chassis supports the high performance 67xx series line cards.
It offers unmatched investment protection through:
•
Hardware compatibility: All the existing supervisors, line cards and switch fabric are supported on both E and non-E series chassis providing
common sparing.
•
Software compatibility: All SW releases supported on non-E chassis are supported on the E series chassis.
In order to support the current deployments of Non E Chassis the spare high speed fan modules will remain orderable and will not End of Sale.
The spare high speed fan modules are:
•
High speed 3 slot fan module
•
High speed 6 slot fan module
•
High speed 9 slot fan module
•
High speed 13 slot fan module
The CISCO
®
Catalyst Non-E 6500 Chassis and Low speed fan modules will be orderable for up to 1 year from the date of external announcement.
The last day to order the Catalyst Non-E 6500 Chassis and Low Speed Fan Modules is November 01, 2006.
Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for six years after end of sale. Table 1 describes the
end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the CISCO
®
Catalyst 6500 Chassis and Low Speed Fan Modules. Table 2 lists the product numbers
affected by this announcement. The recommended replacement for the Cisco EOS Product is listed below in Table 3. Table 4 provides information
on minimum and recommended software requirements for the replacement products.
