Product Bulletin No. 1865
End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement
of Cisco
1600-R
 Series Routers
This Product Bulletin serves as the formal notification of the End of Sales (EoS),
End of Engineering, and End of Life (EoL) for the
Cisco 1601-R, Cisco 1602-R,
Cisco 1603-R, Cisco 1604-R, and Cisco 1605-R routers. The replacement products
are the Cisco 1700 series routers that offer modular design, higher performance, and
additional services including 3DES VPN, firewall, voice, and DSL broadband. For
data and security services, the Cisco 1721 with optional WAN interface cards is a
direct substitute for the Cisco 1600-R routers. For voice solutions, the Cisco 1751
and 1760 support data and voice integration with analog and digital voice support.
The Cisco 1760 also offers 19-inch rack-mount access solutions. For additional
flexibility and higher performance, the Cisco 2600XM router platform can also be
considered as replacement products.
The Cisco 1600 Series router family has been a tremendously successful platform for branch
office solutions. As more customers deploy networked-based and Internet applications, they
require a routing platform with higher performance and advanced services support for voice,
broadband DSL, 3DES VPN with hardware encryption, firewall and Intrusion Detection.
The Cisco 1700 Series delivers the solutions to meet these needs. As a result, customers have
steadily migrated to the Cisco 1700 Series Routers. Customers who are ordering the Cisco
1600 routers are advised to transition to the Cisco 1700 Series Routers (see Table 1 for Cisco
1600-R and Cisco 1700 feature comparisons). Table 2 lists Cisco 1600-R SKUs affected by
the End-of-Sale announcement. Key dates for EOS/EOL are detailed in Table 3. The
replacement products are detailed in Table 4.
