Installing

aBudderflyadaptertransformsyourbuilding’sexistingwiringintothe“BudderflyOpenNetwork”andallowsthe

adapter

tomonitorenergyconsumptionandcommunicatethedatatoafacilitycontroller.

Budderfly

adaptorswillusetheexistingpowerlineandtheRFforcommunicationandthusrequirenoreͲwiring.

Using

ourBudderflysoftware,youcanvisualizeconsumptiondataandmanageeachindividualadapter.

The

 Budderfly MultiͲWay light switch is a component of the Budderfly system and designed to work with all other

Budderfly

devices.ItisaplugͲandͲplayreplacementforyourexistinglightswitch.Onceinstalled,theBudderflyswitches

also

actasrepeaterstoextendtherangeofthenetworkandincreaseefficiency.

This

deviceisdesignedforuseonlywithpermanentlyinstalledfixtures.

The

BudderflyMultiͲWaylightswitchmaybeusedinnewinstallationsortoreplaceanexistingwallswitch.Itcouldbeusedeitherasa2Ͳwayswitch,orasa3Ͳwayswitch.Thewiring

steps

forbothconfigurationsareexplainedinthefollowingdiagrams:

1. At

thecircuitbreakerorfusepanel,disconnectthepowerforallofthecircuitsin

the

switchjunctionbox.

3. Remove

 the wall plate from the switch you are replacing. Then, unscrew the

switch

itselfandpullitoutfromthejunctionbox.

4. Disconnect

thewiresfromtheswitchyouarereplacing.

5. Follow

thewiringinformationprovidedbelowtoconnectthewiresasfollows:

o ConnecttheGROUNDwire(usuallyBareCopperorGreen)totheGroundwire

of

BudderflySwitch(Yellow&Green).

o 2ͲWayconfiguration:

ƒ ConnecttheLOADwire(usuallyBlack)thatgoestothelighttothe

Traveler#1

(Red)wireofBudderflySwitch.

o 3ͲWayconfiguration:

ƒ ConnecttheTraveler#1(UsuallyRed)andTraveler#2(UsuallyBlue)wires

of

theStandardMultiͲWaySwitchtotheTraveler#1(Red)andTraveler#2

(Blue)

wiresofBudderflySwitchrespectively.

ƒ ConnecttheLOADwire(usuallyBlack)thatgoestothelighttotheLOAD

wire

(usuallyBlack)oftheStandardMultiͲWaySwitch.

o ConnecttheLINEwire(usuallyBlack)thatcomesfromtheelectricalservice

panel

totheHOTwireofBudderflySwitch(Black).

o ConnecttheNEUTRALwire(usuallyWhite)totheNeutralwireofBudderfly

Switch

(White).

6. After

youhaveconnectedallofthewires,ensurethatallofthewireconnectors

are

firmlyattachedandthatthereisnoexposedcopperexceptfortheGROUND

wire.

7. Gently

placeBudderflyswitchintothejunctionbox,orientingtheunitwiththe

LED

barontheleft.Then,screwtheswitchintoplace.

8. Reinstall

thewallplate

9. Enable

powertotheswitchfromthecircuitbreakerorfusepanel

10. After

 the Power LED comes on, test that the switch is working properly by

turning

thelightonandoff

11. Add

thedeviceaddresstotheBudderflywebapplication.

x TheBudderflyMultiͲWaylightswitchisintendedforinstallationinaccordancewiththeNationalElectricCodeand

local

regulationsintheUnitedStates.

x Ifyouarenotknowledgeableorcomfortablewithelectricalcircuitry,youshouldhaveaqualifiedelectricianinstall

the

BudderflyMultiͲWaylightswitchforyou.

Exercise

extremecautionwhenusingBudderflyswitchingdevicestocontrolappliances.

To

avoidtheriskofFire,ElectricalShock,Burnsorotherhazardswerecommendthefollowing:

x InstalltheBudderflyswitchesindooronly.
x NeverusetheBudderflyswitchestocontrolmedicaland/orlifesupportequipment.
x DonotusetheBudderflyswitchestocontrolelectricheatersoranyotherapplianceswhichmaypresenta

hazardous

conditionduetounattendedorunintentionalpoweroncontrol.

Never

usetheBudderflyswitcheswithloadsthatexceedthemaximumratingspecified.

x Important:Budderflyswitchesareratedforandintendedtobeusedonlywith

copper

wires.

x Use12AWGorlargerwiressuitablefor80

o.

x Remove3/4"(1.9cm)ofinsulationfromeachwire.

x

Connect

asfollows:Twiststrandsofeachendtightlytogether.Holdbareends

of

wirestogetherandpushfirmlyintowireNut.ScrewNutclockwisemaking

sure

thatnobareconductorshowsbelowtheconnector.

x TurnOFFthepowertothebranchcircuitfortheswitchandlightingfixtureat

the

servicepanel.

x AllwiringconnectionsmustbemadewiththePOWEROFFtoavoidpersonal

injury

and/ordamagetotheswitch.
