SwipeSense Badge User Manual

Badges provide a lightweight and unobtrusive way to collect hand hygiene usage data in real
time. Hand hygiene compliance data is collected from the portable dispenser as well as existing
gel and soap dispensers within each patient room. Badges are linked to individuals via our web
application enabling full participation in facility efforts to improve hand hygiene performance.

Each Badge has a battery life of approximately 2 years, and will only need to be assigned to a
healthcare worker once. They are set to automatically turn off when left still for more than 10
minutes and will automatically resume operation when moved. An alert will be issued by email
to the assigned healthcare worker when it has 10% battery life remaining.
The devices are worn by individual healthcare workers, and they relay the data from the
SwipeSense system to the web application. Each Badge communicates with the following
products:

Room Hubs: These are plugged into each patient’s room, and are used to determine the
location of healthcare workers in order to measure hand hygiene compliance.

Communication Hubs: These products are plugged into each hospital unit (1 per 20-30
patient rooms) to transfer the data from the Badges to our web application.

Smart Sensors: These sensors are connected to each wall-mounted dispenser and they
signal hand hygiene usage to the Badges.

Portable Dispensers: These anonymous portable dispensers send usage information to
the Badges worn by healthcare workers.
