The latest generation of Western Digital’s award-winning WD Caviar Enhanced IDE (EIDE)
hard drive family features new firmware innovations to achieve 80 GB per platter. Spinning at
7200 RPM and offering capacities as large as 250 GB, the latest WD Caviar hard drives
combine the high performance and increased areal density required by today’s capacity-hungry
applications. Selected models are available with Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology*,
perfect for noise-sensitive computing environments.
Data Protection Enhancements
Data Lifeguard  is an expanded set of data protection features that include shock protection,
an environmental protection system, and embedded error detection and repair features that
automatically find, isolate, and repair problem areas that may develop over the extended use of
the hard drive. With Data Lifeguard, the drive can perform more accurate monitoring and
error repair and deliver exceptional data security.
Data Lifeguard Tools  is a set of software utilities that work in conjunction with the
embedded Data Lifeguard features to make hard drive installation, drive management
diagnostics, and repair simple and worry-free.
Shock Guard  provides outstanding improvements in shock and vibration protection for
WD Caviar drives. Shock Guard allows instantaneous data protection at high shock values to
achieve leading shock specifications.
The Western Digital Promise
Western Digital understands the importance of the data stored on our hard drives. We are
committed to providing our customers with reliable, high-performance storage products and
superior customer support and services.
* Available by special order only.
IMPORTANT: Use Data Lifeguard Tools 11.0 or later installation software to access the full capacity of
your hard drive. Hard drives larger than 137 GB may require a controller card to utilize full
drive capacity.
