QuarkCopyDesk — the text editing
software that makes your work flow
QuarkCopyDesk
®
is the text editor built for today’s demanding publishing environments. It is the ideal tool for writers,
editors, and others involved in publishing workflows. QuarkCopyDesk contains a full suite of features for writing, editing,
formatting, and outputting copy for publication.
Designed for compatibility, integrity,
and fidelity
The real power of QuarkCopyDesk lies in its complete
compatibility with QuarkXPress
®
. Layouts created in
QuarkXPress can be easily exported to QuarkCopyDesk,
enabling users to conveniently view page designs while
editing articles. The integrity of the layout design is never
compromised and users can rest assured that their copy
fits the original layout with absolute fidelity.
Dependable and practical
QuarkCopyDesk was originally created as part of Quark
Publishing System
®
Classic (QPS
®
Classic is a server-
based workgroup management system). However,
QuarkCopyDesk does not require QPS Classic to func-
tion and can be used with QuarkXPress and other
editorial systems. Now available to other vendors for
integration into third-party systems, QuarkCopyDesk —
based on the results of years of use in collaborative
publishing workflows — is robust, reliable,
and dependable.
Requiring modest amounts of RAM and disk space,
QuarkCopyDesk empowers your publishing workflow
with versatile tools without straining your budget.
Features designed to streamline your workflow
Designed from the ground up to fully meet the exacting
demands of today’s professional publishing world,
QuarkCopyDesk offers a range of features that enable you
to streamline your workflow, increase efficiency, improve
communication, and enhance overall productivity.
Enhance efficiency through QuarkXPress compatibility
With just a click of the mouse, graphic designers can
export layouts created in QuarkXPress to QuarkCopyDesk
while retaining attributes, such as style sheets, article
geometry, and hyphenation and justification rules.
QuarkCopyDesk users can write to fit because they
know the exact amount of space designed for their work.
When text is imported back to the QuarkXPress layout,
it fits perfectly.
Ensure precise copyfitting
QuarkXPress provides QuarkCopyDesk with each article’s
precise geometry, which means writers, editors, and
reviewers see an actual representation of the complete
QuarkXPress layout while editing or reviewing an article.
QuarkCopyDesk users have the added benefit of
write-to-fit functionality that ensures precise copyfit
when the article is imported back into the master
QuarkXPress layout.
Take advantage of multiple views
You can view articles in WYSIWYG, Galley, or Full-screen
views. These viewing options let you write to fit, select
screen fonts to suit your work preferences, and view copy
as it will display in the final layout.
QuarkCopyDesk lets you view line counts, line breaks,
and column breaks in Galley view. These and other
options give you precise details of how your copy fits in
the layout. Underset or overset amounts, word and line
counts, and column depths are continuously displayed.
Work with multiple components
QuarkCopyDesk articles can consist of multiple,
independent components (or boxes) in a QuarkXPress
layout. For example, a headline, byline, and body copy
could be three components in the same article.
Improve communication and editorial tracking
QuarkCopyDesk provides editors and reviewers with tools
that let them efficiently make and track changes.
Insert notes
The notes feature lets you place electronic comments
directly within an article. You can also use notes to copy
and paste editorial additions or deletions. Notes
display with the article and can be viewed by other
QuarkCopyDesk users as well as users of QuarkXPress.
Notes are not printed with your actual article, but
for easy reference, QuarkCopyDesk provides several
options for printing them — inline, as footnotes, and
as a separate page.
Track editorial changes
Redline, XTensions
®
software enables tracking of editorial
changes within a QuarkCopyDesk article, providing
production teams with a clear record of any and all
changes. Tracking changes also provides a new method
for collaborative editorial communication. You can view
insertions and deletions made to an article along with the
details of who made each particular change.
Import and export text in common formats
QuarkCopyDesk contains filters for exchanging text
with Microsoft® Word, WordPerfect, XPress Tags, and
other common word processing formats.
