USB port 
– has many possible applications. For  
example, it can be used for connecting an external 
hard drive or transferring data to a USB stick. It can 
also provide the power supply for small hard drives.
Two USB ports 
– indicates a product with two USB 
ports.
eSATA port 
– for connecting external storage devices. 
Energy saving 
– this indicates that the product has 
been designed for low power consumption.
Unicable ready 
– enables all channels from a parti-
cular satellite to be received and distributed using a 
single cable system.
RAPS – a free-to-use automatic receiver pro-
gramming system. 
Simply set it up once, and you’ll 
never need to search for channels again. RAPS is  
designed specifically for satellite channels.
smartPORTAL
  – an easy-to-use interface for TV,  
video and Internet, with an application to meet your 
every need.
Internet access
 – your receiver can be connected to 
the Internet so you can access web applications on 
your television.
HD TV 
– high-definition TV is referred to as HDTV. 
The picture is made up of significantly more pixels 
than  a  standard-definition  (SD)  image.  An  HDTV  
receiver is also able to show SD-quality images.
HDMI 
–  a  high-definition  multimedia  interface  ena-
bles the transfer of audio and video, e.g. between 
the receiver and the TV set itself. This type of data 
transfer ensures the highest possible sound and  
picture quality.
Common Interface (CI) 
– this is an interface for mo-
dules that, in combination with the corresponding 
smart cards, can be used to unlock encrypted TV 
channels.
VF display 
–  vacuum  fluorescent  display,  used  to 
display the name of the TV or radio station on the 
receiver.
PVR-ready 
– PVR-ready devices are capable of re-
cording content, either to an internal or external hard 
drive.
WLAN-capable
 – allows wireless connection to your 
home network and the Internet.
LAN / ethernet connection 
– enables you, for ex-
ample, to connect your set-top box to your home 
network and the Internet. 
FULL HD 1080p 
– this is the highest picture quality, 
with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Glossary
RASS – automatic receiver sorting system.  
Cable 
networks deliver a huge range of channels to your 
smart products. RASS provides an easy-to-use over-
view of what is on offer.
UPDATE via USB 
 – your smart product can be up-
dated with new software via the USB port.
UPDATE via RS 232
 – software updates are available 
via the RS 232 port on your computer.
Infrared eye 
– the infrared sensor allows the receiver 
to be hidden from view, but still pick up signal from 
the remote control.
Mediaplayer 
– a media player allows you to play 
diverse images, for example from video cameras, 
computers, mobile phones, and MP3 players, in a 
slideshow. 
SCART 
– is an analog interface. A SCART connec-
tion allows you to link a video recorder or games 
console to the TV via the receiver, quickly and simply.
Electronic program guide (EPG)
  –  the electronic 
program guide offers users an on-screen overview of 
all channels. Viewers can see individual program details 
and record selected content at the push of a button.
Power switch 
– this logo shows that this device can 
be switched off completely. Many receivers can only be 
set to standby mode. This feature allows you to save 
energy without having to unplug the device completely.
Parental control 
– protect your children by blocking 
certain channels, limiting what they can and cannot 
see.
OTA
 – over the air: allows you to update your product 
with important new software via satellite, quickly and 
easily. 
HDMI cable included
  – an HDMI cable for the trans-
fer of audio/visual data is included in the package.
FAVS 
– lists of favorites. Organize your TV and radio 
stations any way you like. You can also save your 
Internet favorites in the smartPORTAL.
smartPORTAL-ready
 – using a wireless USB adap-
ter, your receiver can access the smartPORTAL at 
any time.
