Award-winning Snap Server™ by Adaptec
provides a simple, cost-effective way to
consolidate data, while still providing instant
access to users throughout a corporation.
However, as the quantity of critical data
being stored on Snap Servers increases
over time, the challenge becomes how to
protect that data without breaking the IT
budget. The chosen data protection solution
must address several challenges: protect
against file data corruption, operate without
impacting access to user data, and provide
for instant data availability in the event of a
disaster, whether that disaster is a local
server failure or regional disaster. Snap
Enterprise Data Replicator (Snap EDR)
Express by Adaptec solves these
challenges, providing an enterprise-class
disaster recovery solution for IT
departments of any size.
Snap EDR Express is an enterprise-class
replication solution, providing both nearline
and long distance disaster recovery for
GuardianOS-based Snap Servers.  Snap
EDR Express replicates selected directories,
files, and shares between source and
destination Snap Servers, whether they are
in the same room or across the country. The
initial synchronization creates a copy of the
selected dataset from the source server to
the target location on the destination server.
Each subsequent replication job transfers
only the differences between the servers at
that point in time to ensure that the dataset
on the destination server is kept current. For
organizations with two active sites, Snap
EDR Express can even be used for bi-
directional replication, so the Snap Server in
each office is both active storage and
backup storage for the other office.
Snap EDR Express for Long
Distance Disaster Recovery
To fully protect your business’ information
assets, and to provide access to those
assets even during regional disruptions
such as power outages and earthquakes,
you need to keep an active copy of your
data well outside of the potential impact
zone. Snap EDR Express is network
optimized, allowing destination servers to
be located thousands of mile away,
connected via a WAN or Internet
connection. Snap EDR Express keeps its
impact on the network to a minimum by
using byte-level differential replication,
moving only the changed bytes of a file
rather than the whole file, reducing network
traffic. Snap EDR Express is highly resilient:
if the network goes down during a
replication job, it will start again from where
it left off when the network becomes
available. The high security model present in
Snap EDR Express will keep your data safe,
even when it is being transferred over
less-than reliable public networks.
Snap EDR Express for Nearline
Backup
Should a source server ever fail, users can
directly access their replicated files from the
destination server until the source server is
returned to service. Snap EDR Express
provides substantially improved time-to-
data advantages over traditional tape-based
backups: no need to load a tape, find the
data, transfer it, uncompress it, and copy it
on disk. Snap EDR Express provides
immediate access to data on the destination
server, eliminating down time and lost
productivity. Once the source server has
been repaired or replaced, the servers can
be re-synchronized simply and easily,
without impacting data access.
